- Women’s Support Group (Wed., 4-5p)
The Family Support hosts a professionally facilitated Women’s support group from 4-5pm Wednesday evenings at their offices located at 1255 Waterloo Lane. No prior sign up is required. There is no fee for attending, and childcare is provided.
This weekly group is for women who have been, or are currently involved in, or suspect they maybe involved in, an unhealthy relationship with their husband, boyfriend, or significant other. The purpose of the group is to receive accurate information about the dynamics of abusive relationships and to share personal stories. By educating attendees about cycles of power and control and abuse participants increase their knowledge base and are able to make better choices for their future. Qualities of healthy relationships are discussed enabling participants to experience different, and more positive ways of being in relationships. Through the sharing of personal stories participants experience a sense of relief, and realization that they are not alone. Working within a group context counteracts the isolation and sense of personal shame that pervades abusive relationships and is essential first step to creating a healthier life. Women often leave the group inspired by their fellow attendees and with a renewed sense of personal value and purpose
